The College of Naturopathic Medicine is an integrated unit of the University of Bridgeport, a private, non-sectarian, comprehensive university. The College's mission is to provide appropriate educational experiences to prepare candidates to become doctors of naturopathic medicine. The College seeks: to teach and search for new knowledge; to educate men and women of personal integrity and social conscience; and to maintain close relationships among faculty, students and community professionals. In keeping with the international focus of the university-wide mission, the College of Naturopathic Medicine emphasizes the importance of understanding the traditional medical systems of the world. The College has identified the following goals in support of its mission: 1. Provide a comprehensive, full-time education that prepares qualified candidates to become doctors of naturopathic medicine. 2. Produce graduates who will be competent to practice as portal of entry, primary-care doctors of naturopathic medicine with the necessary qualities and competencies for the benefit of their patients; 3. Advance naturopathic medicine and its knowledge base through scholarship and research; 4. Maintain exemplary out-patient facilities; 5. Be an educational resource for doctors of naturopathic medicine, and 6. Offer educational opportunities for the public and other healthcare providers. The University of Bridgeport is accredited by the Commission on Institutions of Higher Learning of the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC). The College of Naturopathic Medicine is accredited by the Connecticut State Department of Higher Education to offer the degree of Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine. The College is accredited by the Council on Naturopathic Medical Education (CNME), which is recognized by the US Department of Education. | |||||||||||||||||||

All candidates to the College of Naturopathic Medicine must have completed a baccalaureate degree from an accredited, degree-granting institution with a minimum GPA of 3.0; and courses in communication, psychology, social sciences, humanities, general biology or zoology or anatomy and physiology, general chemistry, organic chemistry and general physics. All biology, zoology, anatomy and physiology, chemistry and physics courses must be completed with a grade of "C" or better and have a related laboratory. Applicants must also complete a personal interview. Domestic candidates must submit a completed application form; $75 nonrefundable application fee; official transcripts of all college records; and three letters of recommendation. International applicants must submit an application for international students and an application to the College of Naturopathic Medicine. Applicants who have completed pre-professional study in foreign countries must submit official copies of the records of their study as well as certified English translations. International candidates must also provide proof of their English proficiency through minimum TOEFL scores of 550 on the paper-based test and a score of 50 or better on the TSE; or receipt of a grade of "C" or better in one semester of English at an accredited US college or university; or successful completion of intensive English language study at the university's English Language Institute. The University of Bridgeport has 75 buildings on campus. Students at the College of Naturopathic Medicine have access to the Naturopathic Medical Center, which boasts exam rooms, laboratories, X-ray capabilities, hydrotherapy facilities and rehabilitation equipment. Care is provided by a Connecticut licensed naturopathic physician (ND), who is assisted by a pair of naturopathic interns. Modern buildings that house academic and student life on campus include the Arnold Bernhard Arts and Humanities Center; the John J. Cox Student Center; the Charles A. Dana Hall of Science; the Eleanor Naylor Dana Hall; the Harvey Hubbell Gymnasium; Mandeville Hall; the College of Chiropractic Building; the Technology Building; the Breul Hall; the Magnus Wahlstrom Library; and the Wheeler Recreation Center. | |||||||||||||||||||
